Man surrenders to police after firing a gun at hotel in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. - A man made suicidal statements and shot a firearm at the Valley River Inn overnight, setting off a standoff and negotiations that stretched through the morning, Eugene Police said.

There are no confirmed injuries yet.

The man in his late 20s came down to the lobby around 11 p.m. Thursday night and made some kind of suicidal statement, police said. He then returned to his room on the 3rd floor.

Police said the man fired a gun around 2:48 a.m.

The 3rd floor was evacuated, but the rest of the hotel remains operational.

Negotiators are working to talk the man out of his room.
