SALEM, Ore. – A Molalla mother and four children were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 99E just north of the Salem/Keizer area Sunday afternoon.

Investigators say a northbound driver, Favian R. Garcia, 27, from Gervais, was in a Land Rover and the mother, Lisette Medrano-Perez, 25, was in a Buick Century going southbound.

The two drivers collided head-on while they were negotiating a corner near the Nevada Street intersection.

Medrano-Perez and her three children were found dead at the scene of the crash. A fourth child inside the car was Medrano-Perez's niece.

The children ranged in age from 8 to 2 years old.

Oregon State Police said Garcia had minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The north and southbound lanes of the highway were shut down while police conducted the crash investigation.
