NEWPORT, Ore. - A drunk teenage driver crashed into a power pole and ran away without helping his injured female passenger, police said.

Newport Police cited Luis Angel Landa-Jamie, 19, of Newport on charges of DUII; Felony Hit and Run—Injury; Hit and Run—Property; Reckless Endangering; and Minor in Possession Liquor.

The crash happened Sunday night just before 9, police said.

Landa-Jamie's car hit a power pole and got tangled in the suspension lines, police said.

Officers found the car's front wheels suspended about 4 feet off the ground.

But they didn't find the driver: He'd fled the scene, police said, without helping his female passenger, who hit her head in the crash.

While police conducted their investigation, Landa-Jamie returned to the scene as a passenger in a car.

When he saw officers, he jumped out and ran, police said.

Officers chased him down and took him into custody.

When he refused an alcohol breath test at the jail, police obtained a search warrant to obtain a blood sample from the suspect at the hospital.
