Police: Driver falls asleep, crashes into house in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A driver fell asleep at the wheel early Thursday morning and crashed into a house, Springfield Police said.

No one was seriously physically injured. Officers would like to talk to any witnesses to the crash.

The crash happened at 6848 Main Street just before 6 a.m.

The investigation found that Brooke Eric Keppler, 40, was driving eastbound on Main Street and fell asleep behind the wheel of a 1999 Chevrolet pickup.

The truck crossed through the westbound lanes and drove through the front yard of a home before crashing into a garage.

The occupant of the home was asleep in a room at the far side of the house from the garage.

Keppler was treated and released at the hospital.

Police said the driver is cooperating with investigators. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
