Police arrest driver involved in shootout between cars; second vehicle remains at large
EUGENE, Ore. - Bullets struck two occupied apartments as men exchanged gunfire between cars Wednesday morning in a bar parking lot - and as they sped down a city street, Eugene Police said.
Police arrested one of the drivers, identified as Phillip Alan Stiggins, 34, of Springfield. He faces charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Cocaine Two Grams or More, and Delivery of Cocaine in the shots fired incident on Commons Drive.
The other car and driver remain at large. Police described the suspect vehicle as a grey BMW sedan with possible damage from gunfire. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the car or its driver is asked to call (541) 682-5111.
The situation started at 11:33 a.m. with a report of shots fires.
Police responded to the area of the O Bar, 115 Commons Drive.
Officers learned of a dispute between two men in separate cars.
Gunshots were fired during the dispute - and the two cars had left the parking lot at high speed, still exchanging fire.
Police in Springfield managed to stop one of the cars and detained Stiggins and his passenger. The passenger was later released from custody without charges.
Police said bullets hit at least two occupied apartments in the area. No one was injured.
The investigation found spent casings in the roadway, as well as a handgun that was thrown from one of the cars, police said.
