Oregon State baseball is one game away from College World Series
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Top-seeded Oregon State finished with a victory in game one of the Super Regional Friday night, even without star pitcher Luke Heimlich.
Oregon State secured an 8-4 win over Vanderbilt Friday night at Goss Stadium.
Jake Thompson started on the mound after Heimlich requested to sit the game out. Heimlich has been under the spotlight lately after the Oregonian/Oregon Live reported he failed to re-register as a sex offender in Oregon.
While pitching Friday, Thompson became the third OSU pitcher with 14 wins in a season. The victory marked Oregon State’s 20th-consecutive win.
KJ Harrison hit a homerun in the first inning to bring OSU to a 3-0 lead. After Vanderbilt caught up in the second inning, Nick Madrigal hit a two RBI single to regain the lead.
Vanderbilt never pulled ahead after that.
Thompson was eventually relieved by Jake Mulholland in the eighth inning.
OSU is only one game away from the College World Series. The Beavers play Vanderbilt again Saturday night at 6 p.m.
