DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - One lane of traffic is open on the Scottsburg Bridge as workers continue repairing the bridge.

The Scottsburg Bridge is a vital route between Highway 101 in Reedsport and Interstate-5.

Wednesday, a semi-truck crashed through a railing on the bridge.

The driver suffered minor injuries, however, the Oregon Department of Transportation said they came close to losing the 88-year-old bridge completely.

The repair work is estimated to cost over $300,000.

“It means we won't be able to do other projects, but the other half of that is, when damage is done to state property, we do bill people for that," said Angela Beers-Seydel, public information officer for ODOT.

Drivers no longer have to take the more than 100-mile detour to get around.

One lane is expected to be open Monday as well, with 10 to 15 minute delays.

Drivers are advised to watch for flaggers and workers.

Bridge repair work is expected to continue through next week.
