SPRINGFIELD, Ore.- McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center opens their new emergency department on Thursday, May 24.

The new department is part of their $100 million expansion and renovation project, which includes the new emergency department, a renovation of the existing emergency department, and a renovation of their short stay unit.

Patients will enter the new emergency room, which is attached to the McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center on Mohawk Boulevard, from I Street.

The new emergency department features 19 private exam rooms, including four larger rooms for critical patients who need to be resuscitated.

Hospital staff say the new emergency room will private more space and privacy for patients.

"You know, the old style of county hospital with curtains separating the rooms is a thing of the past, and this is going to allow us to provide that necessary and imperative privacy," Emergency Physician Dr. Mark Brauner said.

The full renovation and expansion project is set to be completed in January 2019. The new emergency department opens Thursday, May 24, at 4 a.m.
