Many people will be celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, so here is a list of events happening in the area that you can attend.

MLK Day March, Celebration and Award | Eugene, OR

The Eugene and Springfield NAACP and community partners will host the annual MLK Jr. Day march and celebration on Monday with the theme of "standing united."

The commission will honor Mo Young with the MLK Community Leader Award this year for her contributions in the are of human rights and race relations in our community. Mo was selected based on her contributions to race relations, demonstration of leadership in social justice and their inclusive and supportive work of communities of color.

The march will commence at 10 a.m. at the North Gate of Autzen Stadium, and proceed to the Shedd Institute for a program highlighting solidarity between religious, civil rights and racial justice groups and the presentation of the Community Leader Award.

MLK Service Day River Cleanup | Roseburg, OR

At the Umpqua Watersheds, the AmeriCorps Service will highlight MLK's message of giving back to the community with love for the environment.

The river cleanup will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stewart Park Pavilion in Roseburg. Volunteers will receive trash bags and supplies, along with instructions on where they can help. Volunteers are encouraged to bring food, water and weather-appropriate clothing.

MLK Day March and Celebration | Springfield, OR

The 20th Annual celebration recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place in Springfield, highlighting the celebration through K-12 student entries of essays, speeches, poetry and art.

The march will take place from 1 p.m to 3:30 p.m., starting at the Springfield Justice Center and ending at Springfield High School.

Bureau of Land Management Waives Most Day Fees | OR

In order to increase recreational access to public land, the BLM will waive recreation-related fees for visitors to public lands on MLK Day.

"On Monday, to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the BLM invites families to spend the day together enjoying America's rich public lands heritage," said Brain Steed, BLM Deputy Director. "Most of these lands are just a short drive from your community. Our fee-free days are a way to encourage our neighbors to enjoy a family outing while reflecting on the American values that have made America great."

South Umpqua Falls and Umpqua Hot Springs | Roseburg, OR

The Umpqua National Forest will waive fees at day-use recreation sites in Oregon and Washington in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Within the Umpqua National Forest, day-use fees will be waived at the trailhead parking area for Umpqua Hot Springs and the day-use area at South Umpqua Falls.

Fees ar enot waived at campgrounds or for cabin rentals. The fee waiver does not apply to Sno-Parks.

Event at Temple Beth Israel | Eugene, OR

In honor of MLK Day, and as a follow up to Rabbi Ruhi's presentation on anti-Semitism, Eric Ward will speak on equality and democracy, anti-Semitism and the rise of white nationalism and take questions.

Ward is a long time civil rights strategist and newly appointed Executive Director of Western States Center, which works with leaders in the West to reduce inequality and advance opportunity.

The event will take place at Temple Beth Israel on Sunday, January 14th at 10 a.m.
