Man struck by vehicle on Hwy 126 after colliding with a tanker truck
LANE COUNTY, Ore. - A man is seriously injured after being hit by a car on HWY 126W Monday morning.
Oregon State Police say that the man was involved in a crash when he collided his Honda Element with a tanker truck. After stepping out of his car, matters got worse.
According to OSP, the driver of the Honda got out of his car, and Lt. Vonn Schleicher says that's when another car rounded the corner and hit him.
He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
Traffic was delayed for close to an hour, and officers are saying that the gruesome scene can serve as a lesson for drivers.
"Tell everyone to slow down and give yourself plenty of time to react to things in the roadway," said Lt. Schleicher.
And if you are involved in an accident, officials encourage you to stay in your car, or move to a safe location.
"What is going to put you in the safest spot?" asked Lt. Schleicher. "Hard, fixed barriers are a safer location than being out in the wide open."
Lt. Schleicher says HWY 126 is not stranger to collisions, and that the steep curves can be tough to navigate. he says drivers also need to keep the impending winter weather in mind.
