COBURG, Ore. - It was all about celebrating the rivers Saturday at Green Island near Coburg. At the "Living River Celebration," participants enjoyed the great outdoors while learning about river and wildlife preservation. The McKenzie River Trust hosted the event. This is the fourth year the event is held outside, where the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers come together. The crowd enjoyed free food and music.

"We also have 1,100 acres where people are free to roam. We've got natural history guides, bird guides, reptile guides, people that are just out walking on their own, people going to the river to see how it changed year to year so it's a day to wonder," said McKenzie River Trust Executive Director Joe Moll.

Organizers said about 800 to 1,000 people take part in the celebration each year.
