Junction City Fire closes Prairie Road to contain house fire
JUNCTION CITY, Ore. – Junction City Fire is searching for a woman whose house caught fire on Prairie Road Monday night.
Emergency personnel responded to the single-story house fire at 8:46 p.m. on Monday.
Fire official say the home was heavily involved when they arrived on scene.
Crews closed Prairie Road from Bryant Street to High Pass as they worked to contain the blaze.
A neighbor told a photographer on scene that he and his daughter saw the house catching fire and called 911. They tried to get the elderly couple out of the home.
The neighbor said they managed to drag an older man out of the burning structure, but couldn’t get to the woman inside, even after breaking windows. The neighbors said she is blind.
Junction City fire said the man suffered burns on his body. He was transported to RiverBend Hospital, but the extent of his injuries are unknown.
Fire officials are still looking for the older woman who was inside the home. They are not sure if she is still inside or if she is elsewhere in the area.
A team went in to search for her, but had to leave because the floor began to collapse.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
