Jefferson St. construction enters phase 3
EUGENE, Ore. - One of South Eugene's busiest streets is getting prepared for the next phase of construction.
On Monday, Jefferson St. will enter phase three of reconstruction between 13th and 18th streets.
Drivers have long complained about the rough conditions on this street, with some of the pavement dating back to the late 1950's.
"We're replacing about a 60 year old road right now as part of this project," said Brian Richardson, Information Officer of Eugene Public Works. "The road had deteriorated and through this process-- we're looking to not only put down a new surface and rebuild the road itself, but we're also making it safer in several different areas as well."
Work will include rebuilding the travel lanes and sidewalk access ramps along Jefferson.
Phase three work officially begins on Monday and will last through mid-October.
Money for the $2.9 million project comes from a 2012 voter-approved bond measure.
