'It's just miracles': Holiday Toy Drive distribution at Brattain House
SPRINGFIELD, Ore.- Our station's first Holiday Toy Drive has wrapped up.
Now your contributions are already putting smiles on many kids faces in the community.
Stacks of dolls, clothes and princess books fill the rooms to donate to those in need at the Brattain House in Springfield.
This year's donations exceeded expectations.
For John Lockhart, receiving gifts for his kids is a huge help.
"I'm looking around and I'm like oh my gosh,” said Lockhart.
"Actually we're a homeless family," Lockhart said. "The Brattain house helps us with gifts and stuff. And also I volunteer here and across the street to kind of pay back you know."
You can see warmth in his eyes when he mentions his kids.
"We wouldn't really have much without it," Lockhard said. "So it's more than I can put into words."
Lockhart is just one of many families receiving help this Christmas time.
"It's kind of a big like excitement I guess, not only for the kids but for the adults it kind of takes off a lot of the weight financially," said Rocio Abundis, who volunteers at the Brattain House and is receiving gifts for her two kids.
"Makes me feel all excited," said Abundis’ daughter Esperanza.
Volunteers at the Brattain House are assisting with the donation distributions.
"It's just miracles," said high school volunteer Giovanni Avila. Avila said giving back to those in need has a personal meaning.
"When I was a kid I use to go through this all of the time. The Salvation Army, the Brattain House and I use to get a lot of from support especially from this place because my sister use to volunteer here as well," said Avila.
Brattain House Family Development Specialist, Silvia Ceja said, “We are so grateful to the whole community that that got together and actually bring us all of these donations for our families."
