Truck crash on Scottsburg Bridge closes Hwy 38
SCOTTSBURG, Ore. -- A truck crash on the Scottsburg Bridge closed Highway 38 on Wednesday, Oregon Department of Transportation says.
Highway 38 remained closed overnight.
ODOT recommends travelers use alternate routes, Hwy 42 or 126.
Bridge inspection and clean-up is underway. There is no ETA to reopen the highway, ODOT said.
According to Oregon State Police, a portion of a diesel semi-truck was hanging off the bridge, leaking fuel and debris into the river. The Department of Environmental Quality was notified.
The driver was extricated from the truck and taken to the hospital in Reedsport. There's no word yet on the driver's condition or extent of injuries and no word yet on the cause of the crash.
ODOT expects it will take about four hours to remove the truck and debris.
Officials say to watch for personnel and equipment in the road. CHECK TRAFFIC
According to Elkton School District, there will be no bus transportation from Scottsburg to Reedsport Thursday due to the road closure. There will only be bus transportation between Scottsburg Bridge and Elkton. The route will be on its normal time schedule.
