SISTERS, Ore. – Ski season starts this weekend at the ski areas closest to Eugene, with Hoodoo Ski Area and Willamette Pass planning to open Saturday.
Hoodoo plans to operate the Manzanita and Easy Rider chair lifts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Willamette Pass also plans limited operations this weekend.
Hoodoo is offering discounted lift tickets for $35, but skiers who bring 2 food donations can buy a $20 ticket.
Food donations will benefit The Giving Plate in Bend, which can accept donations of various goods, including canned soup, fruit, vegetables, pasta sauce, cake mixes, boxed meals, baby food and formula.
"This is the earliest Hoodoo will open since the 2005-06 season," the ski area said in a press release. "Additionally, 100% of Hoodoo's management team is back at the mountain this winter, continuing Hoodoo's well-known reputation for excellent, friendly service in a family friendly atmosphere."
Hoodoo's Big Green Machine, Red and Hodag chair lifts, Autobahn Tubing Park, and Nordic trails will be closed this weekend. They will open later in the season, pending more snowfall.
