Forest fire closes Hwy 126 from Hwy 242 to Hwy 20

UPDATE: The highway was back open by 6:05 p.m. Tuesday.

MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Ore. - Highway 126E is closed from the intersection with Highway 20 to the intersection with Highway 242, Oregon DOT says on TripCheck.

The highway is closed while the U.S. Forest Service responds to a spot fire near milepost 18, about a mile northeast of Belknap Springs, ODOT said.

A spot fire is a forest fire sparked by burning debris carried aloft from a forest fire and deposited elsewhere.

"ODOT will be staffing the closure 24/7 until further notice," the agency said in a statement. "Travelers should avoid the area or use an alternative route.

Highway 242 remains closed due to wildfires.

"Be aware that conditions can change at anytime," ODOT warns on TripCheck for Hwy 20. "Use caution."

The Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge has closed Interstate 84.

And a portion of Highway 138E remains closed in Douglas County due to the Umpqua North Complex fires.
