Food Scene Eugene gives LCC students a hands-on experience
EUGENE, Ore. - The first ever Food Scene Eugene festival took place Friday night and Saturday. Restaurants, wineries, breweries and local businesses featured products at Lane Community College for a celebration of all that Lane County food has to offer.
LCC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program hosted Food Scene Eugene.
Organizers said the event was a way to celebrate local food and drink culture and to allow the program's students to use their skills during a large event.
"It's a great opportunity to work with the community and work with - for the culinary students - work with professional chefs, and get a real hands on experience, because in the classroom you learn so much, but it's great to be able to apply that to real life," said Melanie Frei, LCC student event coordinator.
The festival kicked off Friday night with a mixology and bartending competition. Saturday featured the Iron Check Eugene competition where local chefs from restaurants crafted unique dishes and served them to judges.
