EWEB says squirrel caused outage impacting more than 3,000 customers
EUGENE, Ore. – More than 3,000 Eugene Water & Electric customers in south Eugene lost power for about two and a half hours Sunday morning.
EWEB said there was an outage at their substation on Dillard Street and a squirrel was to blame.
“The squirrels, they are pretty devious and they are pretty wily and despite our attempts to keep them off our electric infrastructure and out of our substation, they always find ways to get in,” said Joe Harwood, EWEB spokesperson.
Unfortunately, the squirrel did not survive.
EWEB said animals causing power outages is common. In 2016, there were 88 animal-caused outages.
