Eugene considers 75-foot AT&T cell phone tower installation
EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene City Council held a public hearing over the plan to build a 75-foot cell phone towe called a mono-pole pine tree.
AT&T wants to build the tower near the Crossfire Church on West Amazon Drive.
City staff prepared a report largely denying AT&T's request.
"We're asserting that the tower was not designed and located in a way that preserves and enhances the desirable features of the neighborhood," said Nick Gioello, associate planner for the City of Eugene.
The group Friends of Amazon Park has been pushing for the denial saying the tower violates city code and would be an eyesore for residents. Meanwhile, AT&T says it would blend in with the landscape and it can create better cell service in the area.
