Driver killed in car crash on icy Oregon highway

SANTIAM JUNCTION, Ore. - An Oregon man died when an oncoming driver lost control of her car on an icy stretch of Highway 22 and collided head-on with the victim's sedan, Oregon State Police said.

Michael T. Hunt, 37, of Tualatin, Oregon, died at the scene, police said.

Hunt was eastbound on Hwy 22 a few miles from Santiam Junction Monday at 8 a.m. when an oncoming vehicle crossed into his lane and collided head-on with the 2008 Nissan Sentra he was driving.

The driver of the other vehicle - 27-year-old Tarah J. Fair - lost control of her 2005 Kia Sorento on the icy highway, according to the state police invesigation.

Medics took Fair to St. Charles in Bend with serious injuries, police said.

The crash response and investigation closed the eastbound lane of Hwy 22 for 5 hours Monday.

State police received help at the scene from Sisters Fire and Rescue, Idanha - Detroit Rural Fire, Gates Fire District and the Oregon DOT.
