Crater Lake National Park closed due to snowfall, avalanche on Hwy 62
CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK - Due to heavy snowfall, both the south and west entrances to Crater Lake National Park on Highway 62 have been closed for January 10.
The park expects to receive an additional 16-26 inches of snow through tomorrow morning. Highway 62 had already been partially closed between the park's west entrance and Prospect due to a small avalanche.
The recent avalanche, a snow layer about 18 inches deep and 100 feet wide, caused numerous downed trees along Highway 62 between Munson Valley and the PCT trailhead.
Plow trucks are continuing to work to clear the road.
The park could reopen as early as tomorrow. The exact opening date and time is dependent on snowfall and conditions.
Please visit the park’s website for up-to-date information.
