Springfield songwriter's hit goes double platinum
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Jesiah Dzwonek received the RIAA certified platinum award Wednesday for the song "Cool Kids" performed by Echosmith, which the Springfield resident co-wrote.
The hit went double platinum for sales exceeding 2 million units.
The songwriter said the song is about a friend who had a tough childhood.
The success has been surreal, he said.
"It just strikes you as weird that your own song is becoming an anthem for a generation, and it's been across the country which is pretty awesome," Dzwonek said.
The songwriter moved to Springfield about 7 years ago from New Jersey.
