LEWISTON (WGME) -- A dog named Bruin disappeared from the Lewiston area a month ago.

The pit bull dingo mix was out in the cold during rain and snow storms that dropped up to a foot of snow.

Through it all Bruin’s owner, Katelyn Hartzell, never lost hope.

On Wednesday, they were finally reunited.

Bruin ran away from his home on Lisbon Road on March 13.

Hartzell says on Tuesday Bruin was spotted going through a couple’s trash on Gayton Road and ran away when they came outside.

The couple told Hartzell they saw how skinny he was and put out food. She says they grabbed one of her flyers and called her right away.

“I headed right over with more food and a game camera. Once he was spotted, Gary and Roni from Maine Lost Dog Recovery headed over with a large humane trap,” Hartzell said.

Hartzell says Bruin took the bait on Wednesday. “He just walked right [into the trap] and waited for someone to let him out. It wasn't harmful to him in any way,” Hartzell said.

“I couldn’t have done it without [the Maine Lost Dog Recovery],” Hartzell said.

Hartzell says Bruin is malnourished and a little weak, but he's happy and home. “We'll get him back to good health soon,” Hartzell said.
