Maine authorities find 9 beagles left in subzero temps without food, water
FREEMAN TOWNSHIP (WGME) -- Police say a man is accused abandoning nine beagle dogs, including three puppies, in an unheated garage, with an open door, to face subzero temperatures in Freeman Township.
Police say the dogs’ owner, 46-year-old David Ellis, of Avon, had moved out of a property on Foster Hill Road, leaving them there over two days without food and with frozen water.
Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Andrew Morgan and Sheriff Scott Nichols responded to the call around 7:30 a.m. Friday.
The dogs were removed and taken to Franklin County Animal Shelter in Farmington. At that time, temperatures at the site were reported at 14 degrees below zero, according to the Sun Journal.
Ellis was charged with class D animal cruelty.
